Evaluations

Evaluations are done! When evaluating we are watching the puppies confidence, pack drive and prey drive, touch, sound, and sight sensitivity as well as their assertiveness and tender heartedness. This is always a super exciting time - giving our families all this information to make a well informed decision on which puppy they’d like. They can then use this info to help with puppy rearing when they bring them home as well. We have everyone decide on a 1st and 2nd choice and then we match everyone based on those choices. This time around we are choosing a male for our breeding program and are still awaiting our DNA results from @embarkforbreeders! Once that comes back we can finalize everyone’s choices 🙌❤️ Exciting times 🎉 🐾 🐶  #northstarweimaraners #puppyevaluations #badassbreeder #empoweredbreeder #weimsofinstagram #weimpuppy #weimaraner #weimaddict

Puppy Rearing Protocol

Welcome to this corner of my world. Raising loyal companions for my clients has been a joy and privilege and I am happy you are here to learn more about what we do and why. Thanks for visiting and please reach out and say Hi. I love connecting with you all and discussing our Weimaraners and learning more about you and how we can help.

During the time your puppies are with us we will do our best to prepare them for life with you as a well-balanced and healthy dog. We start this process and then will equip you with the information to take the leash and carry on.

The first 3 days after birth are a time of rest, relaxation, and connection for Mom and puppies. We focus on keeping stress low for mama, her area warm and clean, and monitoring everyone constantly as things can go wrong in a short amount of time with both mom and pups. We check Mom many times a day for signs of mastitis and puppies for their body temperature and signs of dehydration. Puppies cannot regulate their temperature in the early days and rely on mom and littermates to stay warm so we make sure their room is the perfect temperature for them. While it is tempting to hold and carry pups around when they are this small and cute it is important that puppies spend the first two weeks safe under their mom’s care for proper development. All handling is done in their whelping box and we only do what we need to so we set a good foundation for the pups. This includes monitoring, checking weights, and after day 3 we will begin doing their Early Neurological Stimulation Exercises and Early Scent Introduction and well as gentle handling/cuddling.

Here is more information about both of these:

After this we slowly begin introduce them to different surfaces, sounds, and environments providing different learning opportunities each day. If any pup struggles we empower them to handle it. Handling exercises are done daily and modified weekly as well. Being with their mom and siblings will teach them a ton and we like to compliment that with things we have learned in the past 20 years of raising weims to help them have an even better start. Once they are old enough to play they learn proper socialization skills and have access to all sorts of enrichment activities in a controlled environment to learn how to handle stress, gain confidence, and become the best companion you could ask for. We will begin basic manners and crate exercises as well. This has made a huge difference for when the pups join their new families. We are always interacting with and listening to our clients feedback and adjust accordingly if there are things we can do to improve on the raising of our pups.

I look forward to sharing more about this process!

2021 NorthStar Update

Thanks for checking out our website! We hope it helps you decide if you want a puppy from our program and gives you an opportunity to learn more about Weimaraners and how we do things with our NorthStar Weims. I set up this website 10 years ago and while we had been raising Weims for awhile then already the past 10 years have brought about a lot of changes to how we do things and we are excited to keep learning. My goal is that our website will reflect that accurately to help clients understand what goes into our puppies. This will likely take time to update and evolve but we are excited to start the process and see where things go from there. Thanks for joining us on our adventures in raising your Loyal Companion.

Please view our AVAILABLE PUPPIES page for specific info on puppy rearing and breeding. Our waitlist is often a 6-12 months wait so if you are looking for a puppy right away unfortunately we will not be able to help. We appreciate all the time you put into looking for a breeder that is a good fit and know that it is worth the wait! For all of you wanting a puppy right away all the best with your search and your puppy! Please do your research on a reputable breeder as that will make all the difference for what kind of puppy you get to take home.

It is our joy and privelege to get to raise and empower the next generation of weim puppies. This is not a responsibility we take lightly. We also love to get to know our weim families during this time so we can build that life long relationship. Puppies are a huge responisibility for both the breeder and the family. Your long term feedback is so important to help us in breeding decisions. Not only health wise but also temperament and character wise. Thanks so much for joining us on the journey and trusting us to raise your next loyal companion.

Adult Weimaraner for adoption

UPDATE from Miller's new mom "For those who were wondering how Miller is doing, he has been home with me now for two weeks and is doing amazing! We are hiking every weekend, he is meeting tons of new friends at my clinic, learning how to play nice with horses and we are keeping eachother in shape with all our outdoor activities!" Thanks for the update!

6 year old Miller is available for adoption.

If you or someone you know is looking for a handsome adult weimaraner please contact us to discuss the possibility of Miller being the right fit.

His owners are very sad that they have to do this but have asked me to find him another loving forever home.
He is an 85lb lovable, sweet, goofy, lap dog. True to his breed he lives for his daily hikes, loves people, dogs, kids and though he does live with cats he loves the chance to chase them when he can.

Miller is very good natured and loves playing chase. He loves off leash walks but his leash walking will need some attention as he does like to pull. Car rides to his favorite places get Miller very excited and he loves "singing" the whole way there. He has never shown any aggression to anything or anyone not even over food and loves playing at the dog park.

Miller has developed a few bad boredom traits recently and needs a family that can take some time to teach him not to do these things and take him for lots of long walks and hikes. He is used to sleeping in his crate at night and is fully housebroken. We would love him to go to a home where someone will be with him for the majority of the day and knows the ins and outs of weimaraners as transitioning this sensitive boy to a new home will be a huge adjustment for him. He also will need a large yard that he can run and play in and if there is a playmate for him that would be ideal as he is currently living with a buddy.

Please email us if you have any other questions.

Thanks!
